The soil we use is a 70 % slurry of natural clays selected to be representative of clay soils found in the home laundry. It is entirely particulate matter. A dark-red, iron-rich clay is one of the constituents and the iron mineral gives the stain a pinkish hue. The soil is a proprietary mixture of natural clays that simulate the clay soiled cloths used by Colgate and described in the paper by J.T. Inatamorati, et al, J.Am. Oil Chem. Soc. 52 76-80 (1975).
